Recipe:

This drink is made from dried hibiscus petals and has been consumed for thousands of years. It is easy to make and has many health benefits. You can serve this hot or cold.

When cooking with dried flowers, especially hibiscus, remember that it will stain. It will stain clothes, countertops, containers, etc. Keep this in mind when you are planning to make the tea.

Ingredients for Hibiscus Tea:

8 ounces cold, purified water

3 tablespoons Timeless Hibiscus flowers

2 Timeless Ceylon (True) Cinnamon sticks

1/8 cup sugar (or another sweetner of your choice)

1 small orange, sliced

Ice

1 lemon, cut into wedges

Directions:

Bring water to light boil, turn off heat add the hibiscus flowers and cinnamon sticks. Cover and steep for 20 minutes.

Strain tea into desired container, add sugar and orange slices and serve over ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice.

Tea Notes: This tea recipe can easily be doubled for a larger serving. When using herbs in tea making, longer is not better. Heating the herbs for extended time can release unfavorable qualities and bitterness found in herbs. The key is to add MORE herbs to strengthen flavor.

Benefits of Hibiscus Tea: Hibiscus tea has been known to prevent hypertension, lower blood pressure, reduce blood sugar levels, keep your liver healthy, help with menstrual cramps, help with depression, aid digestion and help with weight management. Its rich in Vitamin C, contains minerals such as flavonoids and has laxative properties. And it tastes delicious!
